Gadwal: In Aija town, a major cleanup of the Pitri Vaagu stream is underway, thanks to the efforts of AICC Secretary Dr. S.A. Sampath Kumar. This stream has suffered from waste and sewage pollution for many years.
Locals, worried about health risks from the stagnant and polluted stream on the town’s outskirts, reached out to Dr. Kumar. He acted quickly, teaming up with the Municipal Commissioner to organize a clean-up using a Hitachi machine to clear nearly three kilometers of the stream.
The Pitri Vaagu starts at Bingi Doddi Cheruvu and stretches about five kilometers through Aija town. Over time, it became choked with sludge and trash, causing problems, especially during rains when it overflowed into homes.
In the past, attempts to get previous governments to address the issue failed. However, Dr. Kumar’s prompt response and decisive action have been praised by locals, farmers, and community members alike.
Today, the cleaning project officially began with the Aija Municipal Commissioner leading the initiative. Local Congress leaders and public figures attended.
Notable participants were:
– Municipal Commissioner Saidulu
– Senior Congress Leader R. Sridhar
– Mekala Nagireddy
– Councilor Gittala Devaraju
– SC Cell District President S. Maddileti
– Former Councilor Raju Narayana
– Leaders Basavaraju, Minor Babu, Devendra, Mallikarjun
Farmers and community members also joined the event. The residents of Aija expressed their joy and gratitude to Dr. S.A. Sampath Kumar for his effective intervention and the positive changes it brought.
