Akbaruddin Owaisi, the Floor Leader of All India Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (AIMIM) in the Telangana Assembly, raised critical concerns regarding Waqf land properties during a recent session. The senior legislator specifically highlighted issues related to Jamia Nizamia and other Waqf properties across the state, drawing attention to their protection and proper management. He urged the state government to take immediate action to prevent encroachment and misuse of these valuable community assets.
During his speech in the Assembly, Owaisi emphasized the urgent need for effective measures to safeguard Waqf lands from illegal occupation and unauthorized use. He expressed serious concerns over the current management and administration of these properties, which are meant to serve the welfare of the Muslim community. The AIMIM leader stressed that proper oversight and accountability mechanisms must be established to ensure these lands are utilized for their intended purposes.
The Hyderabad legislator also demanded that the government convene a dedicated Minority Welfare meeting to comprehensively discuss and address various issues affecting Waqf properties and the minority community at large. This demand reflects growing concerns among community leaders about the preservation and proper utilization of Waqf assets, which include educational institutions, mosques, graveyards, and other charitable properties across Telangana.
In response to Owaisi’s demands and concerns, Telangana Deputy Chief Minister Mallu Bhatti Vikramarka addressed the issue on the Assembly floor. The Deputy Chief Minister acknowledged the concerns raised by the AIMIM Floor Leader regarding the protection and management of Waqf properties. His response indicated the government’s willingness to engage with the issues affecting minority community assets in the state.
The raising of Waqf land issues in the Assembly comes at a time when several states across India are grappling with similar concerns about the protection and management of these religious endowment properties. Waqf properties in Telangana include significant historical and religious sites, and their proper administration remains a matter of importance for the Muslim community in the state.
