AIMIM floor leader Akbaruddin Owaisi has called on the State government to provide assistance to Municipalities, particularly the GHMC, which is burdened with debts of thousands of crores. During a debate on the vote-on-account budget in the Assembly, Akbar highlighted that the government’s commitment to strengthen the Municipalities is not reflected in the budget. He pointed out that GHMC has accumulated pending bills of at least Rs 1,000 crore from contractors, discouraging them from taking on new projects. Akbar urged Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy, who is responsible for Municipal Administration and Urban Development, to prioritize this issue. GHMC has taken significant loans and has been forced to pay Rs 68 crore in interest alone. Akbar also questioned the government’s exclusion of budget allocations for TMREIS institutions, while other Gurukula institutions were included. He requested an explanation for this oversight. Additionally, he reiterated his concern regarding students facing difficulties due to colleges withholding their certificates over non-clearance of fees reimbursement funds. Akbar urged the government to find a solution to this problem and suggested that private colleges be encouraged not to hold certificates of students who are struggling to apply for jobs and visas.
