MIM MLA Akbaruddin Owaisi spoke out strongly in defense of women legislators who allegedly faced mistreatment, stating that a woman’s dignity must be respected regardless of circumstances. The senior legislator made these remarks following an incident involving female members of the legislative assembly, emphasizing that pulling sarees and hair of women representatives was unacceptable behavior that warranted strict action against responsible police officers.
In his statement, Owaisi specifically mentioned standing in solidarity with Sabitha Indra Reddy and Sunitha Lakshma Reddy, asserting that when mothers and women are hurt, it affects all female members of the house. He invoked the presence of Telugu Talli in the assembly while calling for restraint and proper conduct, stating “Kuch tho khayal karna chahiye” (there should be some consideration). The MIM legislator demanded an inquiry into the police officers involved and called for strict action to be taken against those responsible for the alleged mistreatment.
The MIM party has extended conditional support to the Congress party, and Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has maintained working relations with the party. Despite this political arrangement, Akbaruddin Owaisi chose to raise his voice on the issue of women’s dignity, crossing party lines to address what he described as inappropriate treatment of female legislators during the incident.
The incident has brought attention to the treatment of women representatives in legislative settings and the need for proper protocols when dealing with elected members. Owaisi’s statement emphasized that respect for women’s honor should transcend political affiliations and that appropriate measures must be implemented to ensure such incidents do not recur in the future.
