Hyderabad: On February 2, Ombudsman and retired Chief Justice Suresh Kumar Kait announced Amarnath as the new president of the Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA).
Previously, Amarnath narrowly lost the presidential election to A Jagan Mohan Rao by just one vote.
The ombudsman identified legal concerns in the election process. In a detailed order to HCA’s acting president Sardar Daljeet Singh, he stated that Jagan Mohan Rao was not eligible for the president’s position.
In the elections on October 20, 2023, Jagan Mohan Rao received 63 votes, while Amarnath secured 62 votes.
Amarnath contested the election results, pointing out that Jagan Mohan Rao competed under Sri Chakra Cricket Club, formerly known as Gowlipura Cricket Club. He argued that the club’s name and status change were not legally compliant, making the election invalid.
After examining the records, the ombudsman appointed Amarnath as HCA president and instructed the association to transfer responsibilities to him within a week. Amarnath will serve for the remainder of the term.
Amarnath confirmed he took over as the president of HCA on Monday following the ombudsman’s order.
