Bala Sabha Gives Young People a Voice in Medikonda, Aiming for Child-Friendly Villages

Gadwal: On August 2nd, a vibrant ‘Bala Sabha’ took place at the Zilla Parishad High School in Medikonda village. This event aimed to teach children about their rights and issues while promoting their overall growth. It supported the “Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat” initiative by the Ministry of Panchayati Raj, part of India’s Model Gram Panchayat Cluster Project.

The event started with the national anthem and showcased students’ talents and ideas. Remarkably, students managed the entire program, acting as leaders, hosts, and committee members, demonstrating their leadership skills.

Through skits, speeches, and discussions, students addressed issues like child labor, child marriage, and substance abuse. They expressed their thoughts creatively and participated in drawing and poster competitions on topics like Model Village and Model School to enhance their creativity.

Students who excelled in academics and maintained high attendance received special prizes, highlighting their hard work.

Health workers, including ASHA and Anganwadi workers, joined the event to discuss initiatives for improving children’s health, safety, and education. Students also shared challenges they face in their village, openly discussing community concerns.

In a follow-up session, students voiced their needs and suggestions. Officials present promised to support and address these concerns.

MEO Dayal Ramulu highlighted that events like Bala Sabha are crucial for developing leadership skills and social awareness in students. He encouraged students to apply what they learn and praised their presentations for showing critical thinking and social responsibility.

Pavan Kumar, the District Coordinator, emphasized the importance of achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the grassroots level by 2030. He identified nine focus areas for rural development, with child development being central. He encouraged collaboration among schools, gram panchayats, parents, and communities to create a Child-Friendly Gram Panchayat.

Headmaster Patcharla Thimmareddy expressed pride in seeing students speak confidently. He noted that participation boosts their self-confidence and mentioned the school’s efforts to provide a stress-free and joyful learning environment.

The event was well-attended by Panchayat Secretary Diwakar Reddy, teachers, health workers, Anganwadi workers, villagers, and many students, all participating enthusiastically.
