Hyderabad: The BJP Telangana held a protest rally demanding faster work on the long-delayed Uppal elevated corridor project, which has been stuck for the past six years.
NVSS Prabhakar, BJP State Vice-President and former Uppal MLA, spoke to the media on Saturday. He urged the Telangana State Government to speed up the construction. He recalled that the project was approved during his time as MLA and was backed by the Modi government.
According to Prabhakar, the project has seen no real progress because of poor coordination and negligence by the then TRS government. He blamed delays on slow shifting of water pipes, sewer lines, and electric poles, which took years. He also pointed to problems with land acquisition and irregular compensation payments to affected landowners.
He reminded that Union Minister Nitin Gadkari laid the foundation stone for the corridor and that Prime Minister Narendra Modi approved ₹600 crore for the construction. However, Prabhakar accused the previous administration, led by KCR and his son KTR, of failing to cooperate, which slowed down the project meant to ease traffic and improve safety in the Uppal area.
He further criticized the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) and its Strategic Road Development Plan (SRDP) wing for not finalizing the corridor design at Uppal Crossroads. That delay, he said, is a major roadblock. He also revealed that the central government has imposed a ₹20 crore fine on the state for not relocating utilities on time.
Prabhakar added that even the newly elected Congress government has not taken any steps to resolve the issues. Because of this, residents continue to face daily traffic jams and frequent accidents in the area.
He called on Union Minister Nitin Gadkari, who is set to visit Hyderabad on May 5, to instruct the state government to act immediately. Prabhakar urged the project be treated as a priority and completed quickly for the benefit of the public.
