The Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) has welcomed a recent ruling by the Telangana High Court. The court’s decision came in response to petitions from the BRS, asking for the disqualification of three MLAs who had switched to the Congress party.
K.T. Rama Rao, the working president of BRS, expressed his approval of the court’s decision. He said that the party had always believed that these defections were unlawful. He emphasized that the MLAs should face the consequences of their actions. “The Supreme Court has taken a strong stance on defections. We turned to the court after the Speaker did not address our concerns. We hope these disqualifications will lead to by-elections in the state,” Rama Rao added.
Another senior leader of the BRS, T. Harish Rao, also praised the High Court’s decision. He called it a “blow to the Congress party and its government.” Harish Rao said the ruling is a setback for Congress and shows that MLAs who switch parties cannot avoid being disqualified. He expressed confidence that the BRS would win the upcoming by-elections once the MLAs—Danam Nagender (Khairatabad), Kadiam Srihari (Station Ghanpur), and Tellam Venkat Rao (Bhadrachalam)—are officially disqualified.
