Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader B Vinod Kumar strongly criticized Irrigation Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy for accusing BRS Chief K Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) of failing to protect Telangana’s interests. Vinod Kumar dismissed the claims as baseless and highlighted the efforts made by the KCR-led government to safeguard the state’s water rights, including fighting legal battles in the Supreme Court.

In a letter addressed to the Irrigation Minister on Sunday, Vinod Kumar responded to the allegations concerning the allocation of Krishna River waters between Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. He stated, “Your comments against former CM KCR regarding water allocation and pending issues before the Krishna River Water Disputes Tribunal are factually incorrect. They ignore the significant efforts made under his leadership.”

Vinod Kumar emphasized that KCR’s government made continuous efforts to protect Telangana’s share of Krishna River waters. He mentioned that numerous representations were submitted to the central government and other authorities to ensure the state’s rightful share. He also sent copies of these representations to the Minister for reference. “Under KCR’s leadership, Telangana approached the Supreme Court to invoke Section 3 of the Inter-State Water Disputes Act, 1956, making notable progress in securing our state’s interests,” he added.

The BRS leader expressed disappointment over what he called baseless accusations. He pointed out that such remarks fail to acknowledge the historical struggles for Telangana’s statehood and its water rights. “I urge you to review the enclosed documents and refrain from making unfounded allegations against KCR in the future. Let us focus on working together to protect Telangana’s rightful share and prioritize the state’s progress,” Vinod Kumar concluded.
