Hyderabad: T Harish Rao, a senior leader of the BRS, announced on Sunday that his party is prepared to fight the government if it doesn’t resolve the fee reimbursement problem affecting students. He stated that the government’s neglect has severely impacted education, leading many schools and colleges to shut down.
Rao criticized the Revanth government for ignoring demands from educational institutions to release funds for the past two years. He claimed this inaction has forced degree, PG, pharmacy, B Ed, MBA, MCA, and engineering colleges to close, affecting nearly 13 lakh students.
He challenged the Chief Minister, who also manages the Education department, about the delay in semester exams. Rao questioned why funds are unavailable for employee salaries and student fee reimbursements but can be found for the Chief Minister’s projects. He argued that while the government claims insufficient funds for teacher and employee allowances, it continues to invite tenders worth massive amounts.
Rao listed several projects, including Rs 20,000 crore for a “Future City,” Rs 7,000 crore for water projects from Mallanna Sagar to Musi, another Rs 7,000 crore for infrastructure in GHMC, Rs 5,000 crore for a road in Future City, and Rs 10,000 crore in HMDA. Additional tenders include Rs 16,000 crore in R&B, Rs 25,000 crore for schools, Rs 4,400 crore for the Kodangal lift irrigation project, and Rs 1.5 lakh crore for Musi river beautification.
The BRS leader accused the government of issuing tenders worth Rs 2.5 lakh crore to earn commissions. He urged immediate action on the fee reimbursement issue to support children from weaker backgrounds, warning that the BRS will escalate efforts to address education sector challenges if ignored.
