Miryala Lakshmaiah, the driver of the bus involved in a tragic accident between Hyderabad and Bengaluru, was arrested on October 25. He had initially fled the accident scene but was later apprehended by police.
Local investigations revealed Lakshmaiah might have used a fake certificate to obtain his heavy vehicle license. Despite rules requiring at least an eighth-grade education, he falsely claimed to have failed the tenth grade, although he only studied until fifth grade.
In 2004, Lakshmaiah had a previous accident while driving a lorry, which resulted in the death of a cleaner. He survived the incident after hitting a tree.
The recent accident happened in the Kurnool district on a Friday. It resulted in 20 fatalities, including a motorcyclist who collided with the bus. At the time, the bus was carrying 44 passengers.
Following a complaint from survivor N Ramesh, the Ulindakonda Police filed a case against both bus drivers. Ramesh reported that the V Kaveri Travels bus, with registration DD 01 N 9490, was a Multi Axle Sleeper AC Volvo. It had 40 passengers, started from Hyderabad, and headed towards Bengaluru. Ramesh boarded near LB Stadium on October 23.
According to Ramesh, a loud noise and flames appeared at the front of the bus shortly after crossing Kurnool. Kurnool SP Vikrant Patel stated that a case was filed under sections for endangering human life and causing death by negligence.
