The Cybercrime Police in Hyderabad have registered a case against an unidentified individual for allegedly posting objectionable content about Telangana Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy on social media. The complaint was lodged by Youth Congress secretary Vidur Chaula, who reported discovering an edited photograph that allegedly misrepresented facts by misusing the Chief Minister’s image. According to police officials, the photograph in question has been deliberately edited and was uploaded during the first week of September.
Chaula submitted a screenshot of the social media post along with his formal complaint to the authorities. He urged the police to take immediate action against the social media handle responsible for uploading the doctored image. The complainant also requested action against individuals who have been circulating the allegedly manipulated photograph further across various social media platforms. The complaint emphasized that the edited image was intentionally created to mislead the public.
Based on the complaint, the police have registered a case under Sections 352 and 353(1)(b) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Section 352 deals with intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace, while Section 353(1)(b) addresses statements conducing to public mischief. The registration of these specific sections indicates the seriousness with which authorities are treating the matter of doctored images of public officials being circulated on social media platforms.
Police officials have confirmed that investigations are currently underway to identify the person or persons behind the social media handle that posted the edited photograph. The cybercrime team is working to trace the origin of the post and identify those responsible for creating and distributing the manipulated content. Authorities are also examining the extent of the circulation of the doctored image across various social media platforms to determine the full scope of the offense.
