The Telangana Standards Authority for Food and Essential Drugs (TG SAFE) has issued a comprehensive ban on the manufacture, processing, storage, distribution, transportation, and sale of non-dairy paneer and analogue paneer across the state. The prohibition order, issued by the Commissioner of Food Safety, came into immediate effect from 10 September 2026 and will remain in force for a period of one year. The order was officially notified in the gazette bearing No. 807 dated 10 September 2026.
The Commissioner exercised powers conferred under clause (a) of Sub-section (2) of Section 30 of the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006 to issue this prohibition order. The decision was taken in the interest of public health to prevent the sale and distribution of artificial or non-dairy products being marketed as genuine paneer throughout Telangana State. The ban covers all forms of analogue paneer or non-dairy paneer substitutes that are being manufactured, stored, distributed, or sold under the name “Paneer” or any similar designation.
The press note, bearing reference number No. 07/FSS/TG SAFE/2026 dated 11 September 2026, was issued to inform the general public about this regulatory action. The authority has directed that the gazette notification be published in both print and electronic media to ensure widespread dissemination of information to consumers and businesses operating in the food sector. This measure aims to protect consumers from potentially misleading products that do not meet the standards for authentic dairy-based paneer.
The prohibition applies to all stages of the supply chain, including manufacturing units, processing facilities, packaging operations, storage warehouses, distribution networks, and retail outlets across the state. Food business operators dealing in paneer products are expected to comply with this order immediately to avoid legal consequences under the Food Safety and Standards Act, 2006. The official notification has been submitted to the Peshi of the Commissioner for record and implementation purposes.
