Hyderabad’s taxi drivers want more taxi stands, but there aren’t enough in the city. Nine years ago, there were over 170 stands, but now only a few remain. The drivers’ union wants the officials of GHMC, RTA and Traffic Police to work together to find space for more stands. They also want places like hotels and shopping malls to let them park for free. Drivers are getting fined for parking briefly to pick up passengers or use public restrooms. The union also wants boards to remind drivers about speed limits and parking rules. Finally, they want other state vehicles that are in the city illegally to be stopped.
