Hyderabad city officials are stepping up efforts to prevent mosquito breeding before the monsoon season. GHMC Commissioner R V Karnan has asked all Residents' Welfare Associations to ensure there is no standing water in their neighborhoods. Stagnant water is a major cause of mosquito growth, which can spread diseases like dengue and malaria.
He urged citizens, local leaders, and public representatives to work together to keep the city clean and mosquito-free. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) is calling for active public participation to fight mosquito infestations.
People are encouraged to clean their surroundings regularly. Any containers or open spaces where water can collect should be emptied or covered. These small steps can play a big role in reducing the mosquito population.
To support this mission, GHMC has launched large-scale fogging operations across the city. Fogging helps kill mosquitoes and prevent their spread. The drive has already started in all six GHMC zones.
Pilot operations were carried out in Dattatreya Nagar in the Goshamahal circle and near Arora College in the Musaram Bagh division. In the Amberpet division, fogging covered areas like Patel Nagar, New Patel Nagar, Chennareddy Nagar, Kakatiya Line, Babu Nagar, Akash Nagar, Kumar Nagar, and Owaisi Nagar.
Entomology officers and their teams led the efforts on the ground. They used VMF machines in some places and PMF machines in others to ensure wide coverage.
In the Saroornagar circle, fogging took place in Gaddi Annaram division, Kapra circle, Venkateswara Nagar, Mangapuram Colony, and Krishna Nagar Colony. Corporator Jerry Potula Prabhudas from Meerpet actively joined the campaign.
In other parts of the city, corporators also participated. Aruna took part in fogging at Domalaguda, Swaroop Reddy Nagar, Vennela Gadda, and Nagole division. Mettu Kumar Yadav from Patancheru oversaw fogging in Raghavendra Colony.
The fogging drive also reached the LB Nagar zone, covering Kapra, Uppal, Hayathnagar, Hastinapuram, and Saroornagar. In the Charminar area, operations were carried out in Malakpet, Santoshnagar, Chandrayanagutta, Falaknuma, and Rajendranagar. Other key areas included Mehdipatnam, Karwan, Goshamahal, Khairatabad, and Jubilee Hills.
The joint efforts of GHMC staff and local corporators aim to keep Hyderabad safe from mosquito-borne diseases during the rainy season. Residents are encouraged to stay alert and support these initiatives for a healthier community.
