Wanaparthy: Led by Union Bank of India, the Lead Bank Office in Wanaparthy organized a Swachh Bharat event on Saturday morning at Amma Cheruvu Tank Bund.
Officials, locals, and Agniveer training aspirants joined the event. They promised to keep their surroundings clean, spread awareness about cleanliness, and aim for a society without plastic and garbage.
Participants cleaned the area around the tank bund. They collected plastic and other trash, transporting it to the dumping yard with a tractor.
The Additional Collector spoke about the importance of cleanliness. He emphasized that clean villages and towns are crucial for a healthy India, as envisioned by Mahatma Gandhi. Cleanliness, he noted, helps prevent diseases. He advised reducing plastic use, warning that plastic waste harms the environment by blocking soil water absorption.
He encouraged citizens to clean their surroundings and separate wet and dry waste for municipal collection, avoiding dumping waste on roads or in drains.
Avoiding single-use plastics was highlighted. Dirty areas attract mosquitoes and flies, causing health issues. People end up spending money on hospital visits, whereas cleanliness promotes health and saves money.
