Kothagudem: District Collector Jitesh V Patil called on bankers to help achieve government development goals by providing timely loans to eligible people. During a review meeting on Saturday, he, along with Bhadrachalam Sub-Collector Mrinal Shreshta, met with district bank officials and government department heads.

He expressed concerns about the poor loan distribution performance of some banks, including Telangana Grameena Bank and the State Bank of India. The Collector asked these banks to explain their shortcomings.

This financial year, only Rs 409.55 crore of the targeted Rs 2,291 crore for crop loans has been distributed by September end. For agriculture term loans, only Rs 342.31 crore out of Rs 1,416.09 crore has been released. The Collector stressed the need for promoting livelihoods. He urged banks to approve loans for fish farming, country chicken rearing, and similar activities under Self-Help Group programs. The underperformance of some banks in reaching targets was noted, and he instructed that 500 such units be set up in the next three months. Non-cooperation from banks will not be accepted.

A special one-day exposure visit is to be organized for bankers to visit fish and poultry units firsthand. This visit aims to help bankers understand the impact of these projects and encourage more loan support.
