    CM Revanth Reddy Urges Center to Support Hyderabad’s Shift to Electric Public Transport

    Telangana Chief Minister Revanth Reddy has taken a significant step towards reducing pollution and promoting eco-friendly transportation in Hyderabad. The CM recently met Union Minister for Heavy Industries, Kumaraswamy, in Delhi to request support for converting all public buses in Hyderabad to electric models. This initiative aims to create a cleaner and more sustainable urban transport system.

    During the meeting, CM Revanth Reddy highlighted the state’s proposal under the PM E-Drive scheme. He urged the Union Minister to allocate electric buses to Telangana through the Gross Cost Contract (GCC) model. The CM also proposed retrofitting the existing diesel buses with electric kits, presenting it as a cost-effective way to make the vehicles eco-friendly.

    The Chief Minister requested the allocation of 2,800 electric buses for Hyderabad. This includes buses acquired under the GCC model and those converted through retrofitting. These efforts are expected to significantly reduce the city’s carbon footprint and promote sustainable development.

    Several key officials and ministers accompanied the CM during this meeting. The delegation included Uttam Kumar Reddy, Ponnam Prabhakar, Ponguleti Srinivas Reddy, MPs Porika Balram Naik and K. Raghuveer Reddy, Principal Secretary to CM V. Sheshadri, Special Chief Secretary for R&B Vikas Raj, Infrastructure Advisor Srinivas Raju, and Telangana Bhavan Resident Commissioner Gaurav Uppal.

    This initiative underlines Telangana’s commitment to making Hyderabad a model city for clean and green transportation. The state government is now awaiting further discussions and approvals from the central government to move forward with this ambitious project.
