Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has directed officials to begin designing a new dry port that will serve Telangana for the next 100 years. He said the dry port should be built in a suitable location near the Regional Ring Road (RRR).
The Chief Minister held a high-level review meeting on Friday at the Integrated Command and Control Centre (ICCC). The meeting focused on the progress of the RRR project and the construction of national highways across the state.
During the meeting, Revanth Reddy discussed the Hyderabad–Vijayawada Greenfield Road project. This came after the Union Home Secretary gave in-principle approval to prepare a Detailed Project Report (DPR) for the road during a recent meeting in New Delhi. Officials were told to prioritize this project.
The Chief Minister also instructed officials to complete land acquisition for the northern section of the RRR and to finish the DPR for the southern section as soon as possible.
He further directed officials to prepare a proposal for a new national highway connecting Hyderabad to Raipur, the capital of Chhattisgarh. Another proposal will be made for a new highway between Hyderabad and Mancherial.
Revanth Reddy asked about the problems in acquiring land for highway construction. Officials informed him that the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has refused to pay compensation for standing crops in many areas. Since the harvest season is nearly over, the Chief Minister said land acquisition should move ahead quickly with the cooperation of farmers.
He asked Chief Secretary Santhi Kumari to hold meetings with District Collectors to resolve any land issues, including legal and technical hurdles.
The Chief Minister also stressed the need to improve radial roads that connect the Outer Ring Road to the RRR and extend from the RRR to the Telangana border.
