Hyderabad: Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy has announced that the Hyderabad Metro Rail will be extended to Future City. He asked officials to prepare the final proposals needed for this extension.
During a review meeting on the second phase of the metro rail project, the Chief Minister checked on its progress. Officials informed him that the project is still waiting for approval from the Union Government. They explained that metro authorities recently met with central officials in Delhi to push for the necessary permissions.
The second phase of the metro project will cover a total of 76.4 kilometers. This includes several routes: Nagole to Shamshabad Airport (36.8 km), Rayadurgam to Kokapet Neopolis (11.6 km), MGBS to Chandrayangutta (7.5 km), Miyapur to Patancheru (13.4 km), and LB Nagar to Hayat Nagar (7.1 km). The total cost is estimated at Rs 24,269 crore. Both the State and Central governments plan to share the cost equally, at a 50:50 ratio. The Chief Minister asked officials to keep following up with the Center so that work can begin as soon as approval is granted.
In addition, the CM directed officials to plan a 40-kilometer metro extension from the Airport to Young India Skill Development University in the upcoming Future City. The government has already proposed to develop Future City over 30,000 acres.
To prepare for the city’s future growth, the CM suggested that the metro line should also be extended up to Mirkhanpet. He asked for a detailed project report (DPR) with cost estimates to be sent to the Center. The project will be developed in partnership with the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) and the Future City Development Authority (FSDA).
