A special committee has submitted its report to the Telangana government regarding development in the GO 111 area, proposing a balanced approach between environmental conservation and controlled growth. The committee has recommended that development should be permitted without completely disregarding the original purpose of GO 111, while prioritizing the protection of the environment and water bodies in the region.
The report specifically addresses the protection of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs, suggesting the establishment of alternative drainage systems that pose no threat to these water bodies. The committee has emphasized the need for developing sewage treatment plants and maintaining existing rainwater flow channels without any alterations. These measures aim to safeguard the catchment areas of both reservoirs while allowing for sustainable development in the region.
One of the key proposals under discussion is the creation of a special sports zone within the GO 111 area. The committee has suggested giving priority to playgrounds, sports grounds, training centers, and international standard sports facilities in this designated zone. The government is examining the possibilities of developing the area as a sports hub, addressing the shortage of land for sports infrastructure caused by rapid urban expansion across the city.
For villages located within the Outer Ring Road (ORR), the committee has recommended controlled development permissions. Only green buildings, low-density villa projects, and environmentally friendly entertainment centers should be allowed in these areas. The report advises against granting permissions for large apartment complexes and high-density structures, maintaining a balance between development needs and environmental conservation.
Experts believe that the proposed combination of sports zones, low-density housing construction, and green zones will effectively protect the catchment areas of reservoirs and natural water flow routes. This approach is expected to enable environmentally friendly development without compromising the existence of Osman Sagar and Himayat Sagar reservoirs. The committee has suggested that the remaining areas should continue to function as green zones and conservation zones.
Investors have been closely monitoring developments following recent hydra operations and conservation measures in the area. If the government approves the committee’s recommendations, land values in selected villages within the GO 111 area are expected to increase significantly. New opportunities are likely to emerge for sports facilities, entertainment venues, and environmentally friendly residential projects in the designated zones.
