The Congress top leadership met on Monday to discuss supporting the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) led by Arvind Kejriwal over an ordinance issue, and whether to form an alliance with AAP for the 2024 Lok Sabha polls. Congress General Secretary K.C. Venugopal stated that a decision will be announced in the coming days. Congress Chief Mallikarjun Kharge and former party chief Rahul Gandhi also met separately with party leaders from Delhi and Punjab to discuss the alliance with AAP and supporting Kejriwal on the ordinance issue.

Venugopal confirmed that discussions had taken place with the Delhi and Punjab leadership and that a final decision would be made soon. When asked about Kharge’s meeting with Kejriwal on the latter’s request, Venugopal stated that they would let everyone know once a decision had been made. The meeting took place following Kejriwal’s request to meet with Kharge and Rahul Gandhi over the ordinance issue. Kejriwal tweeted on Friday that he was seeking Congress support in Parliament against an undemocratic and unconstitutional ordinance passed by the BJP government, as well as discussing the general assault on federal structure and prevailing political situation.
