The Telangana Southern Power Distribution Company Limited (TSSPDCL) recently announced that they will no longer accept monthly bill payments through third-party UPI apps like PhonePe, Paytm, and Google Pay. This has caused confusion among consumers who were caught off guard by the change and are now facing difficulties when trying to pay their bills through the official TSSPDCL website or mobile app.

The decision to discontinue UPI payments was made following directions from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). Starting July 1, payments through UPI apps like PhonePe, Paytm, Amazon Pay, and Google Pay have been stopped. The RBI guidelines state that payments to billers not part of the Bharat Bill Payment System (BBPS) will no longer be processed from July onwards. TSSPDCL is not currently part of the BBPS, which includes 94 power utilities across the country.

Consumers are confused by this sudden change, as they were able to pay bills directly through UPI apps until June 30. Some people have faced issues with payments on the TSSPDCL website, with money being deducted but no confirmation received. Residents like Ramesh and K Murali have expressed concerns about the capacity of the website to handle payments and the lack of information about the change.

While some consumers like Sai Teja appreciate the decision to discontinue third-party payments, others are worried about transaction charges and fees. TSSPDCL officials have acknowledged the financial burden this may cause and are working on a solution. Currently, consumers can still make payments using a UPI ID on the official site, but not through third-party apps directly.
