Gadwal: On May 31, many seed cotton farmers from across the district will gather in Gadwal to protest against seed companies’ unfair practices. These farmers are part of the Nadigadda Rights Struggle Committee, a local group fighting for their rights.
At a press conference in Dharur mandal, mandal president Nettempadu Govind urged farmers to unite and demand fairness. He highlighted how seed companies deceive farmers by manipulating prices and falsely claiming that quality seeds have failed, leading farmers into debt.
Govind accused companies of avoiding necessary price increases for seed packets while rejecting good seeds as failed in tests. This tactic not only harms farmers financially but also affects them emotionally and socially, trapping them in loans and crop failures. The committee plans to present a detailed report to the District Collector on May 31, outlining the exploitation and providing examples of fraud and pricing issues.
Govind emphasized their determination to seek justice. “This isn’t just a protest; it’s a fight for survival. If we don’t speak up now, seed cotton farmers here have no future,” he stated.
Key movement leaders, including Jammanna, Adavi Anjaneyulu, Maldakal Anjaneyulu, Ramu, Veeresh, and Govindu, attended the press conference. They committed to rallying farmers from each village for the protest.
This rally is seen as crucial in the farmers’ fight for justice. With support from rural leaders and farmer groups, they aim to pressure authorities to regulate seed companies and create a fair agricultural environment.
