Hyderabad: On Monday, the Telangana High Court single bench led by Justice Kunuru Lakshman accepted criminal appeals from Gali Janardhan Reddy and others involved in the Obulapuram Mining Case. The judge will decide later on their requests for “bail.”
The accused, including Janardhan Reddy, BV Srinivasa Reddy, V D Rajagopal, and K Mehafus Ali Khan, asked the court to grant “bail” by suspending a CBI court order from May 6.
Gali’s lawyer told the court they were sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs. 10,000 each. Gali lost his Karnataka Assembly membership after a notification on May 8.
The lawyer urged the judge to quickly consider suspending the conviction since the Election Commission might soon call for elections in Gali’s constituency. Justice Lakshman agreed to review this application.
Earlier in May, the accused sought similar reliefs from the vacation court, but the court refused due to a lack of urgency, postponing the appeals until August.
