Gali’s lawyer told the court they were sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Rs. 10,000 each. Gali lost his Karnataka Assembly membership after a notification on May 8.

The lawyer urged the judge to quickly consider suspending the conviction since the Election Commission might soon call for elections in Gali’s constituency. Justice Lakshman agreed to review this application.
