Hyderabad: On Monday, the Telangana High Court instructed BRS Huzurabad MLA Padi Kaushik Reddy to proceed with his trial related to FIR 252 of 2025, filed on April 21. The case against him involves charges under sections 308(2), 308(4), and 352 BNS, lodged by the Subedari Police Station. His attempt to dismiss the FIR was rejected by the court.

Reddy, represented by his lawyer T V Ramana Rao, claimed he was wrongly accused due to political rivalry. He argued that the complaint came from Katta Uma Devi, who is the wife of Manoj Reddy from Gundedu village, in Kamalapur mandal, Hanumkonda district. Reddy accused Uma Devi of illegal quarrying in his constituency. He explained that local residents complained to him, prompting him to ask Manoj Reddy to halt his operations, which were reportedly harming the environment and livestock health.

Justice Lakshman ordered an investigation into claims made by Uma Devi that Reddy demanded Rs. 25 lakh and Rs. 50 lakh for quarrying activities in his jurisdiction.

After his petition was dismissed, Reddy sought anticipatory bail, requesting the Subedari police to grant him bail if arrested. He assured the court of his cooperation, stating he wouldn’t flee as he is a local resident.

Reddy insisted the FIR was a political maneuver against him, being from the opposition BRS party. He pointed out a delay of 3½ days in lodging the complaint with police, noting that witness statements also reflected this delay. His bail request is expected to be reviewed by a single judge soon.
