The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) and the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation task force recently conducted extensive raids across Hyderabad. They targeted various restaurants, bakeries, supermarkets, and dairy manufacturing units. During these inspections, they discovered several establishments that were unhygienic, had expired food items, and were guilty of other violations.
The inspections were prompted by increasing complaints from the public about unhygienic conditions. Issues such as serving stale food and finding insects in dishes, particularly biryani, were commonly reported. In response, the Food Safety officers intensified their efforts, conducting field inspections and raids on food joints, bakeries, ice-cream parlours, supermarkets, and dairy units. Notices were issued to those not maintaining proper hygiene standards. Over the past few days, more than a dozen eateries were inspected.
At Moon Bean Restaurant & Bar in Malakpet, inspectors found a live cockroach infestation in the kitchen and storeroom. They also discovered expired food items, including ginger garlic paste, button mushrooms, and milk packets, which were promptly discarded. The food handlers at the establishment were found without hair caps and gloves, and the restaurant lacked medical fitness certificates for its staff and pest control records.
Similarly, Tipsy Topsy Bakers in Dilsukhnagar had expired stock, including a packet of jeera biscuits that had expired in 2023. Items such as rose cookies and a vinegar bottle were found without manufacturing and use-by dates and were discarded. The bakery also failed to provide medical fitness certificates for its food handlers and pest control records.
The raid at Sahadeva Reddy Pure Ghee Sweets revealed unlabeled food items like namkeen, mixtures, and pickles without use-by dates. Additionally, 50 kg of packed chana dal without packaging and use-by dates was seized. The establishment also lacked medical fitness certificates for its food handlers and pest control records.
At Al Saud Bait Al Mandi in Malakpet, inspectors found a live cockroach infestation in the kitchen and storeroom. They also discovered and discarded synthetic food colours. The food handlers were not wearing head caps, gloves, or aprons, and the restaurant lacked the necessary medical fitness certificates and pest control records.
Further inspections were conducted at several other locations, including Capital Multicuisine Restaurant in Malakpet, Madhura Restaurant and Bar in Ramanthapur, Sree Swathi Tiffin in Habsiguda, and Grand Lakeview Restaurant & Bar in Uppal. Earlier raids on ghee manufacturing units in Koti, such as Mysore Ghee stores, Shree Mahalakshmi Kendra, and Sri Murugan Ghee stores, also revealed multiple violations.
