Hyderabad: The State Government plans to enforce strict penalties on building owners who ignore fire safety rules. Changes will be made to the Fire Services Act of 1999 to address these issues. Top state officials revealed that a recent inspection by the Telangana Fire Department (TGFD) in Hyderabad found several public buildings not complying with emergency exit standards, even after receiving multiple warnings and official notices. Legal and administrative measures will be taken against those responsible.
Blocked emergency exits are a major cause of repeated fire safety violations and unfortunate incidents. The Telangana Fire Department has strongly advised building owners, facility managers, and the public to adhere to safety regulations.
Emergency exits must always be open and clear. Blocking or locking these exits is a serious offense that risks lives and breaks fire safety laws.
The Fire Services Act will soon be updated to include tougher rules. These updates will require mandatory self-declaration of fire safety compliance, label unsafe buildings, seal non-compliant structures, and impose fines and penalties.
