Hyderabad: In a big success, the Cyberabad Police recovered 1,060 lost and stolen mobile phones in just 45 days. These phones, worth around Rs 3.18 crore, were returned to their rightful owners on Friday at the Police Commissionerate.
The recovery was made possible using the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal. This tool helps track and block lost or stolen phones, making it easier for police to trace and return them.
This was the sixth phase of the mobile recovery effort led by the Cyberabad Police. DCP Crimes LC Naik shared how many phones were recovered in each area: CCS Madhapur recovered 245 phones, CCS Balanagar 225, CCS Medchal 200, CCS Rajendranagar 205, and CCS Shamshabad 185.
DCP Naik said that mobile phones are an important part of daily life, storing valuable information and memories. He added that while thieves are always active, the police are working just as hard to fight them. He also mentioned that many people still don’t know how to protect their phones from being misused after being stolen.
He advised the public to install CCTV cameras in their neighborhoods to improve safety. He also encouraged people to report lost phones at their nearest police station or online through the CEIR portal, which is available across all states and union territories. Reporting through the portal helps stop the misuse of stolen phones and speeds up their recovery.
A woman who received her phone said she had lost it two months ago at a market in Kukatpally. After reporting it to the police, she was surprised and happy when they quickly found and returned it to her.
Another person shared that he lost his phone while returning home after dropping his child at school. The police kept their promise and soon contacted him to return the phone. He thanked the Cyberabad Police for their fast action.
DCP Naik praised the hard work of the officers from CCS, IT Cell, and the Social Media team for their excellent efforts in recovering the phones.
