    Cyberabad Witnesses Surge in Cybercrimes, Resulting in Denizens Losing Rs 232 cr

    There has been a significant increase in online fraud losses under the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate this year compared to last year. In 2022, the total amount lost was Rs 66.66 crore, but this year it spiked to Rs 232.34 crore. Only Rs 46 crore could be recovered or frozen.

    During the annual press meet, Cyberabad CP Avinash Mohanty mentioned that while there has been a slight overall increase in crimes this year, incidents of rape have decreased. However, incidents of road accidents, kidnappings, robberies, and murder have increased compared to last year.

    The Cyber Crime police station registered a total of 5,342 cases. Out of these, 168 cases were solved and 339 accused individuals were arrested. The arrested individuals were involved in major cases such as advertisement fraud, loan fraud, dating fraud, and data theft.

    In terms of crime against women, the number of cases decreased from 2,489 in 2022 to 2,356 this year. Similarly, cases related to weaker sections (SCs/STs) decreased from 158 to 133. Road accidents also saw a slight decrease from 3,224 to 3,143.

    However, the total reported cases this year were 29,156, with 11,506 still under investigation. This is higher compared to 27,322 reported cases and 8,129 under investigation in 2022.

    The detection rate for crimes has increased from 58.60% last year to 63.53% this year. The police managed to recover property worth Rs 17.9 crore out of the total lost property worth Rs 24.9 crore. There were a total of 10 recorded murders this year and a total of 29,156 cognizable offenses including CrPC proceeding cases.

    She Teams conducted decoy operations and apprehended 2,587 individuals, while also counseling 3,032 respondents in 66 sessions. They filed 88 FIRs and made arrests. Additionally, they booked 2,580 petty cases and stopped 9 child marriages. Online decoy operations were also conducted, resulting in the arrest of 11 people.

    Operation Smile and Muskaan were carried out to identify and rescue missing children, child labor, bonded labor, begging, rag picking, and trafficked children. This year, they conducted 1,347 operations and rescued 1,829 children.
