Khammam: District Collector Anudeep Durishetty announced the creation of Digital Detox Centres in forest areas of Khammam to enhance wellness and environmental education. This was revealed during an event honoring Forest Martyrs.
To support these centres, the district will hold meetings every two months with the Forest Protection Committee. These gatherings aim to collaborate with the forest department and offer necessary aid. The event paid tribute to forest personnel who sacrificed their lives while on duty. Durishetty emphasized that protecting forests honors these brave individuals.
Reflecting on his past experiences, Durishetty recalled the 2022 death of forest officer Srinivas Rao in Bhadradri Kothagudem. This incident profoundly affected him, highlighting the difficulties faced in forest conservation. He praised the forest department staff as unsung heroes safeguarding our environment. He warned that continued forest destruction threatens human survival, stressing the importance of trees.
Durishetty highlighted Khammam’s rich forests and wildlife, urging everyone to protect these natural resources. District Forest Officer Siddharth Vikram Singh also emphasized the inspiration drawn from the sacrifices of forest martyrs. He stated that forest conservation is not just a responsibility but a duty for all citizens.
During the event, the Collector distributed protective gear, raincoats, and stick guards to forest staff. The gathering included forest officials, martyrs’ families, and dignitaries. Commissioner of Police Sunil Dutt and District Forest Officer Siddharth Vikram Singh joined the Collector in honoring the martyrs with floral tributes. Attendees observed a two-minute silence and pledged to conserve forests and wildlife.
