In Rangareddy, as Hyderabad enjoys early rains, the district also experiences a welcome change. Unlike the drought conditions last year, this time Rangareddy is seeing heavy rainfall.
Pre-monsoon showers have hit 15 out of 27 mandals, with rainfall exceeding expectations. By May 26, the district had received 916.9 mm of rain, surpassing the usual 725.8 mm for this month.
Kadthal topped the rainfall chart with 14.3 mm, closely followed by Talakondlapally with 13.8 mm. Some areas like Gandipet and Rajendranagar did not see rain on Monday, but Shankarpally recorded a significant 1,192.0 mm, with a 40.3% increase. Other areas like Amangal, Serilingampally, and Nandigama also contributed to the high total of 916.9 mm this month.
The district’s five-year rainfall data reveals high totals in 2020-21 with 1,225.2 mm and in 2022-23 with 1,120.3 mm. This year’s May rainfall is impressive compared to the 721.9 mm of last year.
Besides Rangareddy, Vikarabad and Mahbubnagar are also receiving substantial rainfall, marking a shift from previous dry spells.
