Fake CSK ‘Black Magic’ Complaint Letter Goes Viral After SRH Victory

A photoshopped letter claiming Chennai Super Kings (CSK) filed a formal complaint with the BCCI alleging black magic and voodoo rituals by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) fans has been debunked as fake. The meme spread rapidly on social media following the IPL 2026 match on April 18, 2026, at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad, where SRH defeated CSK by 10 runs. SRH posted 194/9 and successfully defended the total as CSK finished at 184/8, helping SRH climb to 4th position on the points table while ending CSK’s two-match winning streak.

The viral meme originated from a video showing an SRH fan performing a traditional lemon ritual in the stands during the match. The footage captured the fan rotating a lemon near his face with specific gestures, apparently directed toward CSK batter Shivam Dube. Moments after the ritual was performed, Dube was dismissed for 21 runs off 16 balls in the 17th over when CSK was at 154/7 while chasing 194. The timing of the dismissal immediately sparked jokes and memes across social media platforms, with fans humorously attributing Dube’s wicket to supernatural intervention.

Following the viral video, a fabricated official-looking letter surfaced online claiming CSK had lodged a formal complaint with the BCCI about the alleged use of black magic and voodoo practices by opposition fans. The photoshopped document was designed to resemble an authentic complaint letter and was widely shared across social media platforms as cricket banter. The fake letter quickly gained traction among cricket fans who treated it as humorous trolling content typical of IPL rivalries.

The Telangana-focused social media handle @TGGovtUpdates immediately debunked the viral letter, clarifying that no such complaint exists. The handle posted in Telugu stating that the letter claiming CSK complained about SRH fans performing black magic is fake and has no official evidence to support it. Multiple cricket-focused accounts and fact-checking sources also confirmed the letter was entirely fabricated and part of the ongoing social media banter surrounding the match. No official statement has been issued by CSK, BCCI, or SRH management regarding any supernatural complaint.

The fake complaint meme gained additional momentum because it emerged just days after CSK’s actual complaint to the BCCI against an RCB DJ for playing a song stereotyping Chennai players with references to dosa, idli, and sambar. This separate, unrelated incident had already put CSK in the spotlight for filing official complaints, making the fabricated black magic letter seem more plausible to some social media users. The timing contributed to the rapid spread of the meme across platforms, with fans treating it as classic cricket trolling content.

The match itself saw Eshan Malinga deliver a three-wicket haul for SRH in their successful defense of 194 runs. The lemon ritual video and subsequent fake complaint letter have been labeled as pure IPL banter by cricket fans and social media accounts. The incident highlights how superstition, social media creativity, and cricket rivalries combine to create instant viral content during the tournament. The debunking posts from @TGGovtUpdates and other accounts included screenshots of the photoshopped letter along with clear statements that it was fabricated content with no official basis.
