Peddakottapally: On Monday, the fertiliser shortage in Nagarkurnool district became evident as many farmers lined up outside the Single Window office in Pedda Kothapally mandal. They waited for hours hoping to get urea to save their crops.
Witnesses described chaos and frustration at the scene. Officials reportedly locked the main entrance to manage the crowd, leaving hundreds of worried farmers stuck outside in the hot sun. With no other choice, some women and elderly farmers climbed over the gate to access the fertiliser stocks.
The situation quickly became tense. Farmers, anxious about their crops wilting due to delayed fertiliser, pushed and shoved in line. Arguments erupted between farmers and officials over the slow distribution and limited urea supply.
Numerous farmers traveled from far-off villages, only to face uncertainty and neglect. One farmer expressed, “We rely on timely fertiliser for our crops. Even a day’s delay can destroy weeks of effort.”
Agricultural unions have called on the district administration to increase urea supplies immediately and ensure a smooth and transparent distribution process. They warned that ongoing supply issues could seriously harm crop yields in the area.
This incident underscores the need for better planning and management of fertiliser distribution as farmers throughout Telangana struggle with shortages during this crucial growing season.
