Nalgonda/Suryapet: Farmers in the old Nalgonda district are struggling due to a lack of urea. They start lining up at distribution centers early in the morning, but many leave with only one or two bags. This shortage has led to protests, with farmers blocking roads and staging dharnas. The demand for fertilizer in some areas looks like a bustling village fair.
On Friday, a truck delivered urea to the Arvapalli PACS in Suryapet district, but it wasn’t enough. Farmers were frustrated and questioned officials about the limited supply. The responses were vague, which angered them further. Long traffic jams occurred as farmers waited by the highway from morning until noon. Police were called in to control the situation and organize distribution.
In Tippartgii mandal of Nalgonda district, upset farmers blocked the Addanki–Narketpalli road. They accused agricultural officials of not providing enough urea. Despite waiting for hours, they were given just one bag per Aadhaar card, which wasn’t sufficient for their needs.
In Madgulapaly, farmers complained that it had been about 40 days since transplantation, but they hadn’t received enough urea. Without it, their paddy crops might have reduced growth and yields, leading to significant losses. They urged the government to supply adequate urea immediately. Local police eventually persuaded the farmers to end their protest.
