First Meeting Since Russia-Ukraine War: PM Modi Meets Zelensky at G7 Summit in Hiroshima

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi met with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky during the G7 Summit in Japan. This was the first time the two leaders had met since the start of the conflict in Ukraine in 2022. Zelensky arrived in Hiroshima to attend the summit and had previously addressed the Arab League. The two leaders were accompanied by delegations of ministers and officials, and National Security Advisor Ajit Doval was also present. Modi expressed India’s support for peaceful resolution and readiness to contribute constructively within the UN and beyond.

Modi also held bilateral talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Vietnam Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, South Korean President Yoon Suk-Yeol, Indonesian President Joko Widodo, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz, and Japan Prime Minister Fumio Kishida. He briefly met with US President Joe Biden during the first working session and will meet Australian counterpart Anthony Albanese when he, Kishida, Biden, and Albanese convene for the Quad Leadership Summit.
