Hyderabad: The Telangana government has set the reservation policy for the upcoming municipal elections. They have decided on the reserved Mayor and municipal chairperson positions for 121 urban local bodies. The GHMC Mayor role is reserved for women (general).
Officials outlined the reservation process, starting with SC and ST categories, followed by a lottery to allocate 50% of the positions to women. Among the 10 municipal corporations, one post each is reserved for SC and ST, three for BC women, and five under the general category.
In the 121 municipalities across the state, chairperson positions have been allocated as well. Five posts are for STs, 15 for SCs, 38 for BCs, and 19 specifically for BC women. The rest are categorized under general. Dr. T K Sreedevi, the State Municipal Administration and Urban Development Secretary, stated that this reservation policy focuses on better representation for women and marginalized communities in urban governance.
The reservation details for different corporations include: Kothagudem Municipal Corporation for ST (general), Ramagundam for SC (general), Mahbubnagar for BC (women), Mancherial and Karimnagar for BC (general), Khammam and Nizamabad for women (general), with Warangal and Nalgonda falling under the general category.
