Road Caves in Again at Goshamahal, Residents Worried

A portion of the road caved in once again in the Chaknawadi area of Goshamahal on Sunday. This marks the sixth such incident in recent years. The collapse happened at a nala (drain) that has been prone to frequent failures, leaving local residents fearful and anxious.

The incident occurred at a construction site where workers were building a new slab for the nala. Fortunately, no workers were present at the time, preventing what could have been a serious accident.

Residents pointed out that this was not the first time the nala had collapsed. Similar incidents have happened multiple times, including a recent collapse near Darussalam Road. Despite repeated occurrences, no major repairs have been undertaken to fix the issue permanently.

The nala construction project has been ongoing for a long time, but only 50% of the 800-meter structure has been completed. Locals have repeatedly complained to officials about the slow progress. “The unfinished nala poses a serious risk,” one resident said.

According to residents, this nala is one of the oldest in the area, and its structure has weakened over time. Even after repairs, it continues to deteriorate. Each collapse is met with only partial repairs, leaving the nala vulnerable to further damage.

With no permanent solution in place, residents are urging authorities to fully reconstruct the nala to prevent more accidents. They believe the poor management of a nearby nala and the constant movement of heavy vehicles on the road have contributed to the problem.

Local leaders stated that this was the sixth road collapse in the last couple of years. In 2022, a massive portion of the road caved in, dragging vendor carts, bikes, and a car with it. At the time, Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials said the collapse was due to damaged concrete slabs covering the open drain. They also suggested that constant exposure to sewage fumes may have weakened the slabs.

Residents are now demanding urgent action to prevent further incidents and ensure their safety.
