The state cabinet has decided to merge the TSRTC with the government. A bill will be introduced in the state Assembly, which will meet from August 3, to make this decision official. Once the bill is passed, the employees of TSRTC will be considered as government employees.
This demand for merging TSRTC with the government has been there for about seven to eight years. In 2019, TSRTC went on a major strike that lasted for 41 days and involved around 48,000 employees. Unfortunately, 27 people lost their lives during the strike. With this merger, approximately 43,000 employees will benefit.
During the cabinet meeting, discussions were also held regarding the impact of rains on agriculture, the flood situation, and the damage caused by floods. The government has released Rs 500 crore to deal with the flood situation in 10 districts of the state. Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has instructed the Finance department to release these funds. The Munneru’s right retention wall needs to be repaired.
To meet the growing needs of Hyderabad due to rapid industrialization, public transport will be improved. Over the next four years, Hyderabad Metro rail will be expanded. The tender process for Rayadurgam to Airport is almost complete. There are plans for a double decker flyover on important roads and the expansion of metro rail from Isnapur to Miyapur and Miyapur to Lakdikapul, as well as the Vijayawada route up to Peddambarpet. Approximately 150 km of the Outer Ring Road (ORR) will also be covered. The cost of the metro rail project is estimated to be 60,000 crore.
