Government plans to plant 4.7 million palm and toddy saplings in tree-planting drive

Hyderabad: The Telangana government plans to plant palm and toddy seedlings during the upcoming Vanamahotsavam festival. They aim to plant 47.64 lakh seedlings over the next two years. For 2025, the goal is to plant 24.86 lakh saplings, and in 2026, 22.78 lakh. The Panchayat Raj and Rural Development Department have already prepared 45.37 lakh palm seedlings and 5.04 lakh toddy seedlings in their nurseries.

Forest Minister Konda Surekha announced that the government will plant 47.64 lakh palm and toddy saplings statewide as part of the Vanamahotsavam initiative. Forest officials have received orders to achieve this target within two years. The Forest Department alone aims to plant 5.04 lakh palm saplings. This department’s overall target is to plant 18.02 crore saplings statewide for this year’s Vanamahotsavam.

Minister Surekha is focused on boosting Telangana’s forest area from 24.05% to 33%, aligning with the National Forest Policy. To reach this year’s broader target of 18.02 crore saplings, 20 crore saplings have been prepared in 14,355 nurseries across the state.
