Taxi driver arrested for trying to kill someone

Hyderabad: A 25-year-old cab driver was arrested by Bowenpally police for trying to kill two police officers.

The driver, N Sampath Kumar, lives in Moulali and is originally from Andhra Pradesh. He deliberately crashed his car into a police vehicle on 5 July. Authorities charged him under Sections 109(1), 121(2), and 121(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), and Section 3 of the Prevention of Damage to Public Property (PDPP) Act, in case number 295/2025.

Around 10 PM on 5 July, constables K Chanti and L Praveen were patrolling Dairy Farm Road in Bowenpally. They spotted a suspicious white Maruti Suzuki WagonR taxi at the end of a by-lane. As they approached to investigate, the driver hit their police bike. The collision injured both officers. Praveen suffered serious fractures to his left leg, while Chanti had minor injuries.

Following a complaint, a case was filed at the Bowenpally police station. The investigation led to the driver’s arrest on 8 July, identified through CCTV footage and other technical evidence.
