The State government of Telangana is planning to create a “One Man Judicial Commission” to implement a recent Supreme Court judgment on the sub-categorization of the Scheduled Caste (SC) community.

A Cabinet Sub-Committee, led by Irrigation and Civil Supplies Minister N Uttam Kumar Reddy, held a meeting to discuss this. The committee recommended that the State government form the commission as a step towards implementing the court’s ruling.

The sub-committee also looked at how similar one-man commissions were set up in other states like Punjab, Haryana, and Tamil Nadu before implementing SC classification there.

On Monday, the sub-committee plans to meet Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy to present its recommendation and seek his approval.

The government is considering using data from the 2011 census to help with the categorization of the SC community in Telangana. The sub-committee also talked about the benefits that sub-categorization brought to the SC community in the former united Andhra Pradesh between 1999 and 2004.
