The Minister for Irrigation and Civil Supplies, Uttam Kumar Reddy, reviewed the damage to the piers of the Medigadda barrage in Hyderabad on Monday. This issue is important because it will be discussed in the Assembly when the white paper on the state’s economy is presented on Wednesday. Minister Reddy held a meeting with officials from L&T and the Irrigation department. L&T informed the minister that they were only responsible for construction and had no role in designing the project. They also stated that they couldn’t repair the damages due to lack of funds and that they were pressured by the government to complete the project quickly. The minister called for all agreements between L&T and the government to be reviewed, and the government may seek legal opinion on the matter. A combined team of Irrigation department and L&T was instructed to study the cause of the damage and take immediate action. The minister also asked for a visit to the Medigadda and a report on water leakage from Annaram and Sundilla barrages.
