Hyderabad residents have been warned by the Health department about the upcoming heavy rains predicted by the IMD for the next week. Officials are urging everyone to be cautious about seasonal illnesses.
Dr. B Ravinder Nayak, the Director of Public Health, highlighted that the IMD-Hyderabad has forecasted intense rainfall throughout Telangana. This weather, with cooler temperatures and increased humidity, could lead to seasonal diseases, particularly those spread by vectors, water, and air. To help residents stay healthy, the department has shared tips to combat illnesses like Malaria, Dengue, and Chikungunya.
Residents are advised to keep doors and windows secured with mosquito nets. It’s important to cover beds and cribs with mosquito nets and use mosquito repellents. Ensure domestic drains are well-maintained to prevent water stagnation, and cover septic tanks with mesh to stop mosquito breeding. Observing a “Friday Dry Day” weekly can help eliminate stagnant water around homes.
To prevent waterborne diseases like Acute Gastroenteritis, Jaundice, and Typhoid, drink filtered or boiled water and wash hands thoroughly, especially before and after meals. Avoid eating stale food outside. Protect against airborne infections, viral fevers, and influenza by using hand sanitizers frequently, avoiding handshakes when sick, and covering your mouth with a handkerchief when sneezing or coughing.
If anyone experiences flu-like symptoms such as a cough, fever, headache, sore throat, or body aches, they should visit the nearest Government Health facility.
