Hyderabad: Health Minister C. Damodar Raja Narsimha has instructed officials to improve the sanitation, security, and patient care systems in government hospitals. He also emphasized that biometric attendance should be made mandatory for hospital staff. This includes hospital superintendents and staff under the jurisdiction of DME, DH, and VVP commissioners.
During a review meeting on Tuesday, the minister asked the Health Secretary to study sanitation and security practices at All India Institutes and private hospitals. He also recommended forming an expert committee to assess these areas. The committee is expected to submit their report within ten days, after reviewing hospital administration, security, human resources (HR), and staff duties.
The minister also stressed the importance of staff treating patients kindly. He noted that hospital staff, from security personnel to doctors, should communicate politely and with compassion, especially since patients are often in pain. To support this, the minister suggested that staff should receive proper training to improve their interactions with patients. Officials were tasked with making necessary arrangements for this training.
Additionally, Raja Narsimha proposed that hospitals should have more toilets, both inside the inpatient wards and near outpatient areas, to meet the needs of patients. He asked officials to prepare a report on the current patient load, the number of toilets available, and suggestions for adding more where needed. The minister also directed officials to create plans for setting up security outposts in teaching hospitals. He further instructed them to work on reducing the waiting time for outpatients.
