Hyderabad is bracing for severe weather as Cyclone Montha hits Telangana. The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre announced that the cyclone, which started in the Bay of Bengal, landed at midnight and is moving northeast. Many areas, including Hyderabad, are already experiencing heavy rainfall.
Places like Qutubullapur, Gajularamaram, Kukatpally, Miyapur, Nizampet, Alwal, and Capra are seeing continuous rain. Amberpet, Jubilee Hills, Banjara Hills, Gachibowli, Lingampalli, Madhapur, and Hitech City are also affected. Water is gathering on roads, creating challenges for drivers and causing traffic jams.
Khammam district is feeling significant effects with steady rain since last night. The Paleru reservoir is close to its full level, currently at 22.5 feet. The ongoing rains have damaged paddy and cotton fields. In Manuguru, Illandu, and Sattupalli, coal production is impacted as rainwater floods open cast mines.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for Khammam and Warangal due to the cyclone’s expected impact. People in these areas should stay alert and avoid going out unless necessary. An orange alert is also in place for other state districts. The department warns of possible thunderstorms, lightning, and more heavy rain in the coming hours.
