Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court has criticized the Bar Council of India’s (BCI) representative, Adesh Varma, for not providing a solution to hold LLB and LLM exams on time. The court, led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Jukanti Anil Kumar, directed the High Court Registry to involve the University Grants Commission (UGC) in the case.

The court was unhappy that Varma blamed the UGC for not being a part of the case and not addressing the exam issue. The Chief Justice asked Varma if the BCI had contacted the UGC about this matter. Varma admitted they had not.

Imran Khan, Additional Advocate-General, stated that the UGC’s role is limited to granting affiliations to new law colleges and does not extend to scheduling exams. Due to conflicting statements from both sides, the court appointed senior counsel V. Raghuram to review the case documents and provide a clearer picture.

The case originated from a petition by advocate A Bhaskar Reddy. He seeks directions for the BCI and the State government to ensure law exams are held before July every year, starting from the 2024-25 academic year. The hearing is set to continue on July 24.
