High Court orders government to justify not stopping Pedda Chevuru land grabbing in Hyderabad

The Telangana High Court has asked several government officials to explain why they haven’t stopped illegal construction around Pedda Cheruvu lake. The court issued notices to the Chief Secretary, the Principal Secretaries of Irrigation and Revenue departments, collector of RR district, commissioners of GHMC and HMDA, DE (Irrigation) and the commissioner, Meerpet municipality. They have until July 27 to respond. The court was hearing a case filed by Akula Padma, who wants unauthorised and illegal constructions in the FTL area and buffer zone near Pedda Cheruvu lake to be removed. Padma also wants the FTL lands to be restored to the full tank level and a committee to be created for the lake’s development.
