The Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority (HMDA) has unveiled plans for a new flyover project aimed at easing traffic congestion in the city. The proposed 4-kilometer elevated corridor will connect Banjara Hills Road Number 1 from GVK One Mall to the PVNR Expressway via Masab Tank. Field surveys for the project have already commenced, with authorities working intensively to make the flyover operational within the next two years.
The new infrastructure project addresses a critical traffic bottleneck in the area. While the existing PVNR flyover provides quick access to the airport, commuters often face significant delays when crossing through Masab Tank junction. Travelers frequently spend hours navigating through congested areas, and the new flyover is expected to provide major relief by facilitating smoother traffic flow on both sides of the corridor.
The flyover will start from GVK Mall in Banjara Hills and descend near the PVNR Expressway via Masab Tank. Commuters from Begumpet will be able to access the GVK overpass through the Panjagutta overpass and reach the main road directly from Ameerpet Junction. A down ramp will be constructed in the Road Number 12 area of Banjara Hills, specifically benefiting travelers heading from the airport to Road Numbers 10 and 12.
An additional smaller flyover will be built from under the main overpass at Chintal Basti Junction to enable smooth vehicle movement from Panjagutta and Somajiguda towards Road Number 12. Furthermore, an up-ramp in front of the NMDC building will allow vehicles to move seamlessly from Lakdi-ka-pul to Masab Tank Junction onto the newly constructed flyover, creating multiple entry and exit points for commuters.
The Detailed Project Report (DPR) is expected to be finalized soon, which will outline the required funding, land acquisition details, and other critical aspects of the project. The government has expressed its commitment to the construction of this flyover, recognizing its importance in improving connectivity and reducing travel time for airport-bound passengers and daily commuters alike.
Ravinder, Chief Engineer of HMDA, stated that with the construction of this flyover, passengers traveling to the airport will experience significant convenience. The project represents a major step in addressing the growing traffic challenges faced by Hyderabad’s expanding urban population and improving overall transportation infrastructure in the city.
