Hyderabad’s Rajiv Gandhi International Airport has witnessed significant passenger traffic growth this year, with domestic travel crossing 23 million passengers between January and November. The airport is now projected to handle over 25 million passengers in the calendar year 2025-26.

The airport has expanded its domestic connectivity to 72 routes, recently adding Purnea (PXN) in Bihar and Navi Mumbai (NMI) to its network. This expansion reflects the growing demand for air travel from the Telangana capital.

IndiGo Airlines continues to strengthen its position at the airport, approaching a dominant 80% monopoly in route share. The airline’s extensive network and frequent flights have made it the preferred carrier for most passengers traveling through Hyderabad.

The airport has registered a year-on-year growth rate of 12.5%, indicating robust recovery and expansion in the aviation sector. This growth comes amid increasing business activity and tourism in Hyderabad and surrounding regions.

The addition of Purnea as a new destination connects Hyderabad with eastern India, while the Navi Mumbai route provides an alternative gateway to the Mumbai metropolitan region. These new connections are expected to boost both business and leisure travel.

The airport’s infrastructure has been handling the increased traffic efficiently, with ongoing efforts to enhance passenger experience and operational capacity. The facility continues to invest in modernization to accommodate future growth.

With IndiGo’s near-monopoly position, passengers have access to extensive connectivity options, though questions about competition and fare pricing remain relevant for the market. The airline operates multiple daily flights on popular routes from Hyderabad.

The projected figure of over 25 million domestic passengers for the upcoming calendar year would mark a significant milestone for the airport, cementing its position among India’s busiest aviation hubs. The 12.5% growth rate surpasses national aviation industry averages, demonstrating Hyderabad’s strong performance in the sector.
